Canisius Game Notes

Five Things to Know
1. Back in Action
The Golden Griffins look to continue their winning ways this Sunday, as they travel to face Quinnipiac. Canisius returned to action Sunday against Siena sweeping both matches, after having a 470 day hiatus. Canisius' last contest prior to Sunday was November 23, 2019, when the Griffs fell to Quinnipiac in five sets, at the 2019 MAAC Tournament semifinals.

2. First Match
Debut
Canisius' win in its first match on Sunday was the first collegiate win for first-year coach Shannon Thompson. Thompson became the first Canisius head coach to win their opening match at the helm of the Griffs since 1988.

3. Nelson's Career
Day
Hannah Nelson's team-high 25 kills in the first match on Sunday against Siena established a career high for the outside hitter. Her previous personal best was 22 kills against Rider, on October 6, 2019. The Cary, N.C. native posted a double-double in both contests Sunday, averaging 17.5 kills and 13.0 digs per match.

4. 2-0 Start for the Griffs

The 2-0 start is the first time since 2011 that the Griffs have won its first two matches of the season. During the 2011 campaign, Canisius started off with defeats over Providence and La Salle. The Blue & Gold would finish the season with an even 15-15 record, including a 10-8 record in MAAC play.

5. Series History

Canisius leads the all-time series against the Bobcats, 14-5. Canisius is looking for its first win in Hamden since the 2018 season, when they swept Quinnipiac in three sets.
