O’Connell and Pollack Named MAAC Swimmers of the Week

Canisius senior Liam O'Connell and graduate student Sage Pollack were named the MAAC's Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Wednesday.

O'Connell and Pollack both captured first-place finishes in all four of their events last Saturday, helping the Golden Griffins' post a sweep of its tri-meet against the University of Rochester and MAAC-rival Siena.

O'Connell earned the top spot in the 100, 200 and 500 free solo events, with times of 47.21, 1:42.45 and 4:49.33, respectively. The Hamburg, N.Y., native also took first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.42.

Pollack anchored the women's team, who claimed first-place finishes in 11 of its 16 events. The New City, N.Y., native earned victories in the 50 and 100 free events, with times of 24.19 and 53.80. Pollack was also part of the 200 free and 200 medley relays that garnered first-place times of 1:39.73 and 1:51.25.

Canisius is set to return to action Saturday at noon when it hosts Geneseo for a dual meet at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo, N.Y.
