MAAC Announces Outdoor Track Preseason Coaches' Poll

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its annual Outdoor Track Preseason Coaches' Poll, Friday morning. The Canisius women were selected eighth out of 10 teams, with 25 points and the men's program was picked to finish seventh out of eight, with 13 overall points.

Last season, the men's program finished in fifth place with 30 points at the championships, while the women were only able to pick up five points throughout the weekend to finish in 10th place.

The outdoor track program opens its 2019 schedule at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on March 29-30. A total of seven meets are on the Griffs slate before the 2019 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by the Penn Relays on April 25.

On the men's side, Monmouth was selected to finish atop the league once again with 63 points and seven first-place votes, followed by Rider (56) and Iona (46) in third place. Manhattan (44) and Siena (31) were picked fourth and fifth by the coaches. Marist (18), the Golden Griffins and Saint Peter's (13) round out the eight-team poll.

For the women, Monmouth was picked first, receiving nine first-place votes and 99 overall points. Rider (91), Manhattan (76), and Quinnipiac (74) took spots two through four. Iona (58), Marist (48) and Siena (40) were selected to finish above the Blue and Gold, with Saint Peter's (22) selected and Niagara (17) chosen below.

The 2019 MAAC Indoor Championships will be held at the Kessler Stadium on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J., May 4-5.
