Cross Country Competes in National Catholic Invitational

The Canisius men's and women's cross country teams posted a pair of top-10 team finishes for the second straight year in the National Catholic Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame Friday in South Bend, Ind.

Making their 42nd overall appearance in the event, senior Kyle Urban led the Golden Griffins in the men's 8k race with a 15th-place finish, posting a time of 24:46.4.

Senior Brody Jones took 24th, crossing the line with a time of 25:21.0. Freshman Daniel Granville (26:15.2/41st), sophomore Fenway Breckels (26:33.6/50th) and sophomore Ryan Giglia (26:36.6/54th) all placed in the top 55 finishers.

Canisius finished with a team total of 167 points in the men's race, placing them sixth overall. Host Notre Dame won the men's event with 20 points. Loyola (55) placed second, and Lewis (110) rounded out the top three.

Sophomore Clara Sundberg paced the women's team in its 5k race, finishing 36th with a time of 19:00.7. Freshman Julia Gullo (19:23.5/43rd) and junior Brooke Podgorski (20:07.6/57th) also placed in the top 60 runners.

The Canisius women finished with a total of 220 points, placing them in seventh. Host Notre Dame took the top spot with 15 points, followed by Lewis (69) in second and DePaul (79) in third.
