Childress Breaks School Record on Third Day of MAAC'S

Sophomore Kelsey Childress broke her own record and placed fourth in the women's 400-yard IM on Friday, as the Canisius swimming and diving program wrapped up day three of the MAAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center.

Childress crushed her previous record in the 400 IM event with a mark of 4:32.88 in the preliminary event and then again in the finals with a time of 4:32.14, good for fourth place. Sophomore Lauren Thorne placed 14th in 400 IM with a time of 4:45.24. Fellow sophomore Madison Chapin earned two top-20 finishes on the third day of competition, with an 11th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly race (58.60) and 15th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke event (100.14). 
 
Freshman Morgan Farman had a top performance in her first MAAC Championship as she finished eighth in the 100-yard backstroke event (59.66) and senior Cassie Brousseau placed 11th in that race with a mark of 59.50. 

On the men's side, Lucas Kennedy earned the silver medal in the 100-yard Breaststroke event (55.59), while Junior Kenyon Winkky earned a pair of 10th-place finishes in the 100-butterfly (50.14) and the 100-yard backstroke event (51.75). 
 
Freshman Liam O'Connell had a stand-out performance, as he earned the sixth spot in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:40.72, setting a new Canisius record. Fellow freshman Kyle Kimmer, Kennedy, O'Connell and Winkky placed sixth in the 400-medley relay with a time of (3:22.88). Sophomore Josh Dempsey earned a 13th-place finish in the 400 IM event (4:06.67). 
 
Sophomore diver Brett Palo's score of 214.75 on the 3-meter board was good for seventh-place, while senior Joe Egloff placed 16th.

Having completed the third day of championship action, the Golden Griffins will now turn their sights to day four of the championship, which begins with 10 swimming preliminaries, along with the women's one-meter preliminary tomorrow at 10 a.m.  

Event Notes
• After two days of the event, the men's team is in fifth and the women's team sits in fourth-place overall in the team portion of the championship. 
• Fairfield leads the women's championship with 509 points, while Marist sits in second place with 436 points. Rider is in third with 380 points and Canisius ranks fourth with its 240 points.
• In the men's championship, Rider leads the way after two days with 546 points. Bryant is in second place with 397 points, Marist is in third place (345.5) and Iona sits in fourth place (276). The Blue and Gold round out the top-five with 221 points. 
• After setting a new school record in the 200-IM yesterday, Childress broke yet another record in the 400-IM with her time of 4:32.14. 
• The women's relay unit of Farman, Childress, Chapin and Gilfillan placed 8th in the 400 medley relay. 
• Kimerer placed 12th in the 100-yard butterfly event
