Swimming and Diving Defeated by Binghamton

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell on the road Saturday afternoon in Vestal, N.Y. The Canisius men were defeated by Binghamton, 167-131, while the women's team suffered a 207-93 loss to the Bearcats.

In women's diving, Canisius senior Gianna Cornelia swept her events, placing first in both the 1-meter (230.92) and 3-meter (230.40) events. Senior Vinnie Costanzo took third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 211.20 and placed second in the 1-meter (220.15) competition.

Junior Sage Pollack earned the only first-place finish for the women's side of competition. The New City, N.Y., native won the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 24.95.

The men's side earned top scores in nine of the 14 events on Saturday afternoon, with four different swimmers earning first place in individual events.

Sophomore Liam O'Connell earned top scores in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard free, while fellow sophomore Kyle Kimerer took first in the 200-yard free event.

Senior Kenyon Winkky earned top finishes after coming in first in the 100-yard backstroke and butterfly events. Junior Lucas Kennedy took top honors in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, while also placing second in the 100 IM.

The Blue and Gold close out a four-meet travel schedule on Nov. 15 in Olean, N.Y., when they take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Diving is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the swimming competition is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
