St. Bonaventure Sweeps Swimming and Diving

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell on the road at St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon in Olean, N.Y.

The Canisius men were defeated by a 150-87 margin while the women's team suffered a 162.5-80.5 setback to the Bonnies.

In women's diving, senior Vinnie Costanzo placed second in the 1-meter (221.32) dive and fourth in the 3-meter (222.52) event. Senior Gianna Corneila took third in both the 1-meter (213.07) and 3-meter (231.22) events.

Junior Ashlynn Gilfillan earned the sole first-place finish on the women's side of the competition. The Dexter, N.Y. native placed first in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 53.75. Gilfillan also took second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:59.27.

The men's side was led by a dominant performance from sophomore Liam O'Connell. O'Connell swept his events on the day, placing first in the 1000, 200, and 500-free events.

Senior Kenyon Winkky also earned a top finish after coming in first in the 100-yard butterfly event. Junior Lucas Kennedy placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.79.

The Blue and Gold are set to return home on Jan. 17 when they host "Battle of the Bridge" rival Niagara. Meet time at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of ECC in downtown Buffalo is set for 12 p.m.
