Swimming and Diving to Face the Bonnies

The Canisius swimming and diving programs will close out a busy travel schedule Friday with a trip to Olean, N.Y. to take on St. Bonaventure at the Reilly Center Pool. The diving portion of the meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with swimming competition set to start at 4 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell on the road last Saturday in Vestal, N.Y.
  • The Canisius men were defeated by Binghamton, 167-131, while the women's team suffered a 207-93 loss to the Bearcats.
  • In women's diving, Canisius senior Gianna Cornelia earned a sweep, placing first in both the 1-meter (230.92) and 3-meter (230.40) events.
  • Junior Sage Pollack earned the only first-place finish for the women's side with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle race (24.95).
  • The men's side earned first-place finishes in nine of their 14 events on Saturday afternoon.
  • Sophomore Liam O'Connell earned top scores in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard free, while fellow sophomore Kyle Kimerer took first in the 200-yard free event.
  • Senior Kenyon Winkky earned top finishes in after coming in first in the 100-yard backstroke and butterfly events.
  • Junior Lucas Kennedy took top honors in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, while also placing second in the 100 IM.
 
CANISIUS – ST. BONAVENTURE 2018 RESULTS
  • St. Bonaventure swept Canisius in competition last season at the Burt Flickinger Center. The Canisius men's team fell 147-96, while the women's side was defeated 148-95.
  • Junior Kelly Burns was the only female swimmer to earn top honors after winning the 100-yard free event.
  • On the men's side, senior Kyle Griffin and freshman Liam O'Connell earned top honors in the 50-yard and 200-yard freestyle events, respectively.
UP NEXT
  • The Blue and Gold return to action Jan. 18, when the Griffs return to downtown Buffalo to host "Battle of the Bridge" rival Niagara at the Burt Flickinger Center. Meet time is set for 12 p.m.
