Cross Country Returns to Delaware Park for Alumni Classic

Time: Women's 5K Noon | Men's 8K 12:45 p.m.
Location: Buffalo, N.Y. | Delaware Park
 
About the Alumni Classic
• Canisius will host its annual Alumni Classic on Saturday in Delaware Park. The meet is set to begin at noon with the women's 5K, followed by the men's 8K at 12:45 p.m.
• A total of 12 teams will join Canisius in Delaware Park, including rivals Niagara and Buffalo.
• The course starts near Ashkers in the Park on the corner of Nottingham Terrace and Meadow Road. CLICK HERE for directions.
 
Season Highlights
• Canisius sophomore Libby Benzer has been the most consistent Golden Griffin on the women's side as she has set personal-best times in each race this season.
• The women's team has had three freshman finish in the team's top-five of each scored race this season.
• Senior Anthony Belfatto has finished as the Griffs top runner in each of the last two races, highlighted by a 21st-place finish at the National Catholic Championship.
• Freshman Tom Appenheimer has finished as the men's number two scoring runner in each of his first three collegiate races, highlighted by a second-place finish at the Little-Three Championship.
• Nick Neamtu was named MAAC Runner of the Week (Sept. 4) for his performance at the Little-Three Championship. The senior finished the race in first place with a career-best 6K time of 15:51.
 
Alumni Classic History
• This Saturday will mark the seventh straight season Canisius has hosted the Alumni Classic.
• The men's and women's programs have finished first in the team standings three times in the last six seasons.
• Last season, the Griffs finished in second place on both sides with Neamtu and sophomore Bailey Pierce returning as the top-finishers from a year ago.

• Canisius heads to Holmdel, N.J. for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2. The meet has a scheduled start time of 11 a.m.
