Swimming and Diving Tops Gannon on Senior Day

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Gannon Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Center. The Canisius men topped Gannon, 167-125, while the women's team defeated the Golden Knights, 182-110.
 
In diving, Canisius junior Gianna Cornelia'score of 273.90 took top honors on the 1-meter board, while teammate Vivian Mroz placed second with her score of 257.55. In the 3-meter, Mroz posted 269.48 points en route to first-place honors, while junior Vinnie Costanzo (257.70 – 2nd) and Cornelia (256.43 – 3rd) rounded out the top-three diving scores.
 
On the women's side, the relay unit of freshman Jordyn Spencer, sophomores Kelsey ChildressSierra Kenney and Sage Pollack started the day off by placing first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.13). The sophomores had a standout day as Pollack placed second in the 100-yard (54.79) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.03) events while Childress placed first in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:14.48) race. 
 
Senior Cassie Brousseau took home top-finishes in the 100-yard (1:00.71) and 200-yard (2:12.07) backstroke events. Freshman Cara Smith placed first in the 200-yard (1:59.24) and 500-yard (5:15.40) free races. Sophomore Kelly Burns earned the top spot in the 100-yard free with her time of 54.77. 
 
In the men's competition, the relay team of juniors Kenyon Winkky and Kyle Griffin,sophomore Lucas Kennedy and senior Sean Carbary started the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay(1:33.38). Kennedy had a successful day overall with top finishes in the 100-yard (56.59) and 200-yard (2:07.32) breaststroke events. 
 
Senior James Pokornowski earned top honors in the 1,000-yard (10:00.32) freestyle race. Freshman Kyle Kimerer picked up a duo of first place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (51.90) and 100-yard freestyle (46.98) events. 

In the men's diving portion, sophomore Brett Palo received top scores on the 1-meter board (229.65) and on the 3-meter board with a mark of 220.50. 

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action Feb.13-16 when they co-host the MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships with Niagara at ECC's Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
