Diving to Compete in NCAA Zone A Championships

A total of seven members of the Canisius diving program will take part in the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship, which starts Monday afternoon at Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, N.J.

On the women's side, junior Vivian Mroz and the sophomore duo of Gianna Cornelia and Vinnie Costanzo will represent the Blue and Gold. At the 2018 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships two weeks ago, Mroz won the silver medal in the women's 1-meter diving competition and Cornelia earned the bronze on the 3-meter board. This trip marks the second time Mroz's has taken part in the NCAA Zone A Championships.

The men's program will be represented by seniors Travis Wright, Kris Santos and Josh Larcom, along with freshman Bret Palo. At the 2018 MAAC Championships, Wright earned his fifth and sixth MAAC titles, the most for any diver in conference history. He set a new MAAC record with a score of 353.20. Santos brought home the silver for Canisius in the 1-meter event with his score of 344.3. Larcom and Palo also earned spots in the top-10 as well. The final day of competition was highlighted by the selection of Wright as the 2018 MAAC Men's Most Outstanding Diver, while head diving coach Ian O' Rourke was voted as the 2018 MAAC Diving Coach of the Year.

The Griffs start the week with the women competing on the 1-meter board and the men taking part in the 3-meter board event on Monday afternoon.
