Swimming and Diving Split at Home on Saturday

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split at home Saturday afternoon at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo. The Canisius men topped Alfred, 174-112, while the women's team fell to Colgate, 158-141.
 
In diving, Canisius junior Vinnie Costanzo earned her first sweep of the season. Costanzo's score of 248.09 took top honors in the 1-meter, while teammate Vivian Mroz placed third with her score of 242.99. In the 3-meter, Costanzo posted 250.42 points en route to first-place honors, while Mroz (247.57 – 2nd) and junior Gianna Cornelia (238.65 – 3rd) rounded out the top-three diving scores.
 
On the women's side, the relay unit of freshmen Jordyn Spencer and Alison Testone and sophomores Kelsey Childress and Sage Pollack started the day off by placing second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:51.46).
 
Freshman Cara Smith earned second-place in the 1,000-yard (10:45.62), 500-yard (5:16.96) and 200-yard (1:59.15) free events. Sophomore Alexis Agee had top finishes in the 500-yard free and 200-yard free races. 
 
In the men's competition, the relay team of juniors Kenyon Winkky and Kyle Griffin, sophomore Lucas Kennedy and freshman Kyle Kimerer started the meet by winning the 200-yard medley. Kennedy had a successful day overall with top finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. 
 
Senior Sean Carbary earned top honors in the 100-yard backstroke race. Carabry had two second-place finishes for the day, including the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard back events. Freshman Liam O'Connell picked up a trio of secondary honors in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard free and 100-yard fee events. 
 
In the men's diving portion, sophomore Brett Palo received top scores on the 1-meter board (274.72) and on the 3-meter board with a mark of 284.56.
 
The Blue and Gold return to action on Nov. 10, when the Griffs host St. Bonaventure. Meet time at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y., is set for 3 p.m.
