Swimming and Diving Falls to St.Bonaventure

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Little Three rival St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.

The Canisius men fell to St. Bonaventure, 147-96, while the women's team dropped a 148-95 decision to the Bonnies.

On the women's side, the relay unit of freshmen Jordyn Spencer and Alison Testone and sophomores Madison Chapin and Sage Pollack started the day off by placing second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.31).

Sophomore Kelly Burns was the only female swimmer to earn individual top honors for the women, turning in a first-place finish in the 100-yard free event (54.99). Freshman Cara Smith earned second place in the 1,000-yard (10:50.56), ans 500-yard (5:21.16) free events.

In the men's competition, the relay team of seniors Sean Carbary and Michael Shenal, junior Kenyon Winkky and sophomore Lucas Kennedy started the meet by winning the 200-yard medley. Kennedy also earned a top finish in the 100-yard breaststroke race with a mark of 56.93.

Junior Kyle Griffin earned top honors in the 50-yard free race (21.23) and freshman Liam O'Connell placed first in the 200-yard free event (1:43.93).

In the men's diving portion, sophomore Brett Palo received the top score on the 3-meter board with a mark of 297.30.

Head Coach Scott Vanderzell's Postgame Comments
"I thought the team really battled today. We pushed hard but came up short. It was nice to see Brett compete at a higher level on the boards and come up with a big win. We are going to have a week off from competition where the team will practice hard in preparation for Binghamton."
