Swimming and Diving Splits with Geneseo

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split at home Saturday afternoon to open the home portion of their 2018-19 schedule. The Canisius men won by a score of 149-94, while the women's team fell to the visitors, 140-103.
 
In diving, Canisius junior Vinnie Costanzo placed first in the 3-meter competition and fifth in the 1-meter event. Costanzo's score of 252.18 took top-honors in the 3-meter, while teammate Gianna Cornelia placed third with her score of 232.87. In the 1-meter, Costanzo posted 209.17 points en route to a fifth-place honor, while Cornelia(237.82 – 2nd) and senior Vivian Mroz (217.38 – 4th) rounded out the top-five diving scores.
 
On the women's side, the relay unit of senior Cassie Brousseau, sophomores Madison Chapin and Sage Pollack, and freshman Halle Dueringer started the day off by placing second in the 200-yard medley relay race (1:51.85). Soon after, Brousseau placed first in the 100-yard back event and fourth in the 200-yard IM event.
 
Sophomore Kelsey Childress had a stand-out day, with a top-finish in the 100-yard fly event (59.36) and a second-place result in the 200-yard IM race. Junior Ashlynn Gilfillan earned a pair of top-three finishes including the 50-yard (25.06-3rd) and 100-yard (54.62-1st) free races.
 
In the men's competition, the relay team of senior Michael Shenal, junior Kenyon Winkky, sophomore Lucas Kennedy and freshman Kyle Kimerer started the day off by winning the 200-yard medley. Kennedy had a successful day overall with top finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM events. Winkky placed first in the 100-yard back (52.58) and 200-yard free relay event.
 
Junior Kyle Griffin joined Winkky, Shenal and Kimerer to earn top-honors in the 200-yard free relay event with a time of 1:25.90. Kimerer also placed first in  the 100-yard fly (51.68) to add to the Golden Griffins' lead.
 
Freshman Liam O'Connell picked up a victory in the 1,000-yard free race and later added a top-finish in the 500-yard free event.
 
In the men's diving portion, sophomore Brett Palo earned top-honors on the 3-meter board (274.42) and second-place on the 1-meter board with 275.39.
 
The Blue and Gold return to action on Nov. 3, when the Griffs host Colgate. Meet time at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y., is set for 3 p.m.
