Swimming and Diving Sweeps Niagara on Senior Day

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept rival Niagara Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Center.

The men's squad knocked off the Purple Eagles, 185-97, to win their fifth straight meet and improve to 6-1 on the season. On the women's side, Canisius posted a 188-110 victory to move to 3-4 on the campaign.

In diving portion, Canisius senior Kris Santos got things started for the Blue and Gold, taking the 1-meter competition by more than 10 points. The senior's score of 334.20 took top honors with teammate Travis Wright placing second with a score of 320.25. On the 3-meter board, Wright posted 359.18 points en route to first place with Santos (353.85) finishing second.
 
Women's diver Vivian Mroz also took home two first-place finishes for the day. The junior scored a 268.50 in the 1-meter event with fellow Griff Vinnie Costanzo placing second (242.78). On the 3-meter board, Mroz took top honors with her score of 282.15, which qualified her for NCAA Zones, followed by Costanzo (251.63).

In the men's competition, the relay team of Greg Staebell, Lucas Kennedy, Dan Dirrigl and Tommy Kirch started the day off by winning the 200-yard medley. Staebell, Dirrigl and Kennedy went on to place first in other events during the meet as well, while James Pokornowski earned two first-place finishes in the 1,000 (10:02) and 500-yard (4:53.18) free events.
 
On the women's side, senior Rebecca Anthone won the 50 (24.67), 100 (53.33) and 200-yard (1:56.08) free races. Junior Cassie Brousseau earned two first-place finishes in the 200 ( 2:11.61) and 100-yard (1:01.75) backstroke events, while freshman Lexi Agee placed first in the 1000 (10:49.09) and 500-yard (5:20.64) free events. Kelsey Childress also took home two first-place finishes in the 200-yard IM (2:13.19) and the 200-yard (2:30.07) breaststroke events.
