LAST TIME OUT

• The Canisius women's basketball team outscored Saint Peter's 19-7 in the first quarter on the way to a 66-53 victory in Jersey City, N.J., Thursday night.

• Despite the big first quarter, Saint Peter's drew to within five points of the lead thanks to an Alyssa Velles three pointer with 5:31 left in the third quarter but the Griffs recovered with a 13-5 run the rest of the frame, retaking a double-digit lead at the end.
• The five-point deficit was as close as the Peacocks came, as the Blue and Gold kept pace with the Peacock office as both teams scored 19 in the final frame and ended the game with a 66-53 Canisius advantage.

Sara Hinriksdottir tallied a season-high 24 points, hitting 10-of-21 from the field and 3-of-7 from long range. Hinriksdottir also paced the team with eight rebounds and four assists.

Maria Welch also tallied a season-high 18 points against the Peacocks, going 7-of-12 from the floor and a team-high 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

• Also reaching double-digits was Margret Halfdanardottir, who tallied 10 points (4-of-10) and adding three assists.

• The Griffs offense excelled with efficiency, shooting 42 percent from the field and hit 33 percent from long range, with eight treys.

• The Peacocks edged the Griffs in the battle of the boards, taking down 38 rebounds, while Canisius recorded 37 and the two teams had an equal number of turnovers with 15 each.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

• Hinriksdottir continues to be the team's most productive point producer, as she is averaging 13.7 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per contest.

Margret Halfdanardottir is next on the scoring list, posting 8.4 points per game, while Maria Welch also is averaging 8.4 points per game.

• Canisius is averaging 55.1 points per game and is allowing 64.6.

• The team is shooting 36.3 percent from the field, while opponents are limited to 38.6.

• As a team the Griffs have averaged 36.1 boards per game and opponents are taking down 40.7.

• The Griffs are averaging 16.8 turnovers per contest, while opponents are giving it away 14.2 times per game.

MONMOUTH SCOUT
• The Hawks come into the contest with a 4-12 record and a 2-3 conference mark.

• Monmouth comes into the contest having won two of the last three but was defeated by Quinnipiac in its latest contest 76-55.

• The Hawks have two players averaging double figures as Kayla Shaw (12.2) and Rhaiah Spooner-Knight (10.1) average over 10 points per game.

• Spooner Knight is the team leader in rebounds, taking down 5.7 boards per game.

• The Hawks are averaging 53.2 points, while opponents are scoring 65.7 points per game.

• The Hawks are shooting 36 percent from the field while foes are shooting 39 percent.

• MU has struggled from long range, shooting just 27 percent from 3-point land and is averaging five three-pointers per contest.

• Turnovers have been a big issue for Monmouth as the team from West Long Branch, N.J., is averaging 21 per game for a -8.0 margin.

SERIES HISTORY VS. MONMOUTH

• With its win in the opening MAAC weekend this season, the Griffs have evened the all-time series to 4-4.

• The win halted a win streak consisting of three-straight wins after, beginning when Monmouth ousted Canisius from the MAAC tournament.

• Previous to that game Canisius won two of the first three games the two teams played.

• Canisius did hold a three-game winning streak earlier in the all-time history.

• All five contests have come under head coach Terry Zeh, with the team holding a 3-1 mark at home, a 1-2 record on the road and an 0-1 mark in the MAAC tournament.

• In the first game of the season between the two squads, Canisius bested Monmouth 74-54 at the Koessler Athletic Center.

HINRIKSDOTTIR HEATING UP
•  Sara Hinriksdottir started off the season reeling off nine-straight games with double-digit points, but a lull in the season had the Griffs offense mired in a slump.

• However the third-year player has broken out the three-game spell, and appears to be better than ever.

• Against Saint Peter's Hinriksdottir posted a season-high 24 points, hitting 10-of-21 shots from the field.

• Over the last four games Hinriksdottir has averaged 18.5 points, and 6.5 rebounds.

• The junior forward has also tallied over 15 points in three of the four contests.
