Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at Merrimack

Madison Roman and Oralye Keifer combined for 48 points to lead Merrimack to a 71-55 win over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball action Thursday inside Lawler Arena in North Andover, Mass.

Roman scored a game-high 25 points and Keifer added 23 for the victorious Warriors, who improved to 17-11 overall and 14-5 in conference play. Paloma Garcia was credited with a game-high nine steals as the Warriors forced Canisius into 25 turnovers. Merrimack made 23-of-57 shots (40.4 percent) from the field throughout the contest and went 7-for-17 (41.7 percent) from behind the 3-point arc.

Sophomore Yasmine Djibril led Canisius with 17 points and senior Franka Wittenberg chipped in 14 as the Golden Griffins fell to 5-23 overall and 3-16 in league action with the loss. Canisius shot 36.7 percent from the floor and made 7-of-23 tries from behind the arc in the loss.

Canisius jumped out to a 16-10 lead with 3:08 remaining in the opening quarter before a 9-0 run allowed the Warriors to take a three point lead into the break. Merrimack built upon that lead in the second stanza, out-scoring Canisius by a 13-9 margin throughout the frame to take a 32-25 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Warriors took control of the contest early in the third quarter, rattling off 11 straight points to brake the game open. Merrimack defended that lead for the remainder of the evening to lock in the 16-point victory.

GAME NOTES
• Canisius and Merrimack met for the third time in program history on Thursday. Merrimack joined the MAAC prior to the 2024-25 season.
• Djibril scored in double figures in three straight games and ended in double digits for the 10th time this season and 13th of her career. 
• Wittenberg turned in double digits points for the fourth consecutive game and 12th time this season.
• Canisius went 12-for-13 (92.3 percent) from the free throw line, marking the first time this season that the Blue and Gold have shot 90%-or-better at the charity stripe.
• Redshirt freshman Ari Parker played a career-high eight minutes and recorded her first collegiate rebound in Thursday's contest.

Canisius concludes the regular season at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at M&T Bank Arena and the contest will stream live on ESPN+.
