Swimming and Diving to Host Niagara for Senior Day

The Canisius Swimming and Diving programs will host "Battle of the Bridge" rival Niagara on Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College at 1 p.m. for the team's senior day.
 
The Golden Griffins are coming off a split with Binghamton, which saw the men's side highlighted by the relay team of Greg StaebellLucas KennedyDan Dirrigl and Tommy Kirch, which started the day by winning the 200-yard medley. Staebell, Dirrigl and Kennedy, also placed first in other events during the meet as well. James Pokornowski also earned two first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard (10:00.23) and 500-yard (4:49.96) free events.
 
On the women's side, senior Rebecca Anthone won the 50-free (25.3) and 200-yard (1:57.51) free races. Junior Cassie Brousseau earned a first-place finish in the 200-back event, while sophomore Ashlynn Gilfillan placed first in the 100-free event with a time of 54.58.

In the diving portion, Canisius senior Travis Wright took both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions by more than 10 points. Wright's score of 338.40 took top honors in the 1-meter, with teammate Kris Santos placing second with a score of 284.24. On the 3-meter board, Wright posted 302.77 points en route to a first-place finish with Santos (289.58) finishing second.
 
Women's diver Vivian Mroz also took home two first-place finishes for the day. The junior scored  263.40 points in the 1-meter event with fellow Griff Vinnie Costanzo placing second (222.44). On the 3-meter board, Mroz took top honors with her score of 269.02, followed by Costanzo (243.90).
 
The Blue and Gold will honor 13 seniors, Anthone, Katelyn Battaglia, Kelly Roberts, Natalie Ryan, and Meghan Tyler on the women's side, with Dirrigl, Jason Hill, Kirch, Josh Larcom, John Moretti, Santos, Staebell, and Wright being honored on the men's side.
 
In their last meeting with Niagara, the Griffs swept the Purple Eagles, 186-113 on the women's side, and 177.5-122.5 in men's play.
