Women’s Basketball Releases 2017-18 MAAC Schedule

The Canisius women's basketball program announced its 2017-18 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate on Friday, with the Golden Griffins set to kick off league play Dec. 29 at home against Fairfield. That game will be a part of a basketball doubleheader in the Koessler Athletic Center, with the Canisius men's team hosting Rider on the same day.

As part of the MAAC's new scheduling format, each team will play nine home games and nine road contests against conference rivals. Canisius will play Fairfield once, and the Griffs will play at Iona in the only meeting between the two programs. This will mark the first time since 1989-90, Canisius' first year in the MAAC, where the Blue and Gold did not play Fairfield and Iona twice during the conference's regular season.

The Blue and Gold's lone home conference contest in December gives comes before a three-game road swing starting Jan. 2 at Iona. The Griffs are also slated to play at Manhattan Jan. 4, before traveling to New Jersey to play at Rider Jan. 7.

Following the road trip, the Canisius returns home for its annual Kid's Day, where the team will host Manhattan Jaspers at the Koessler Athletic Center. Tipoff for that game is slated for 11 a.m. The Griffs are 9-4 in their last 13 Kid's Day games at home.

Siena comes town on Jan. 13 for a 2 p.m., matinee, before Canisius takes to the road again, facing Saint Peter's Jan. 18 and Monmouth on Jan. 20.

The Griffs round out the first month of the new calendar year with a pair of home contests, as the team will play host to defending MAAC champion Quinnipiac Jan. 26 and Marist Jan. 28.

A busy February brings the Griffs down the homestretch of the regualr season, beginning with home events with rival Niagara Feb. 1, and Saint Peter's Feb. 5. A road trip to face the Quinnipiac (Jan. 9) and Marist (Jan. 11) follows, before the Griffs host Monmouth (Jan. 16) and Rider (Jan. 18) for its final two home games of the year.

Canisius will close out the 2017-18 regular-season slate on the road with a pair of games, starting at long-time rival Niagara Feb. 20. The Griffs will then travel to Loudonville, N.Y., Feb. 23 to play at Siena in the final MAAC contest of the year.

The 2018 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship is set to run from March 1-5 at Times Union Center in Albany.
