Glavin and Quinn Sweep MAAC Weekly Awards

After winning both the women's and men's races at the 2017 Little Three Championships last weekend, the Canisius cross country programs swept the MAAC weekly awards, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Junior Siobhan Quinn was named the MAAC's Female Runner of the Week after she won the women's race at the Little Three with a time of 17:35. The victory was Quinn's third consecutive Little Three title, making her the first women in series history to win three titles.

Sophomore Donny Glavin was named the MAAC's Male Runner of the Week after he led the Golden Griffins and won the 5K event with a time of 15:23.4. Glavin and Quinn are the first Canisius cross country runners to be honored by the conference office since now former Griff Chad Maloy, now an assistant on the team's coaching staff, was honored in Sept. 2015.

Quinn posted a time of 21:19.30 to finish first and win the 2016 MAAC Women's Cross Country Championships individual crown at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Quinn was the first Canisius female runner to win the MAAC's Championship race since Allison Carr in 1997, and she also earned the distinction of being the first non-Iona female to win the league's individual championship since 2005.

It's the fourth-straight year that the Griff women's team took top honors, while it's the 12th-straight time the men's squad defeated Niagara and St. Bonaventure. On the men's side, the Griffs took home a team score of 15, while the women totaled a team score of 18. In the men's standings, St. Bonaventure placed second with 45 points while Niagara came in third with 60. Meanwhile, on the women's side, the Bonnies placed second with 40 points with the Purple Eagles took third with 62.

Both programs will return Sept. 15 when the team's top-15 runners will compete in the National Catholic Championships, hosted by Notre Dame. The rest of the team will take part at the UB Stampede. Both meets are scheduled to take place Sept. 15.
