Swimming and Diving Splits with Colgate

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams split the afternoon, on the road at Colgate . The Canisius men won by a score of 187.5-93.5, while the women's squad dropped 160-128.

The Canisius men's team claimed top-spots in 12 of the 14 men's races on Saturday. In diving, Canisius senior Travis Wright won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions and broke two pool records at Colgate. Wright's score of 344.40 took top-honors in the 1-meter, while teammate Kris Santos placed second with his score of 336. In the 3-meter, Wright posted 407.17 points en route to a first-place honor, while Santos (361.43 – 2nd) and Brett Palo (279.83 – 3rd) rounded out the top-three diving scores.

In the men's competition, the relay team of Greg Staebell, Lucas Kennedy, Dan Dirrigl and Tommy Kirch started the day off by winning the 400-yard medley. Staebell, Dirrigl, Kirch, and Kennedy would go on to place first in other events during the meet as well, while freshman Alex Kunes earned top-honors in the 1,000 free. Senior Kobi Donaldson, Michael Shenal, Kirch, and Dirrigl also won the 200-yard free relay.

On the women's side, senior Rebecca Anthone won the 50 (24.70), 200 (1:55.21), and 500-yard (5:16.12) free races.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action Nov. 11, when the Griffs travel to swim at St.Bonaventure. The meet in Olean, N.Y., has a diving start time of 10 a.m., and a swim start time of noon.
