All this week, Canisius will introduce the four male nominees for the 2015-16 Athlete of the Year Award. After all four candidates for this award are posted on Monday and Tuesday, fans will have the chance to vote on who they think will win the award in an online poll which will run on GoGriffs.com through Wednesday evening. The 2015-16 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year will be officially introduced Thursday, June 30 at noon.
Canisius Male Athlete of the Year NomineeTravis Wright
Canisius sophomore diver Travis Wright is the second nominee for the 2015-16 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year award. A native of Derby, N.Y., Wright earned the prestigious MAAC Diver of the Year Award after his strong performance at the 2016 MAAC Championship and he also became the first Canisius diver to place in both the one and three-meter events at the NCAA Zone A Championships.
Stats and Awards
• Was the top diver in eight of the 14 diving events he competed in during the 2015-16 season.
• Named the 2016 MAAC Diver of the Year after winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
• His score of 314.0 in the one-meter dive event at the MAAC Championship was a new career best, and his score of 349.4 in the three-meter competition also stands as a career-high.
• His score in the three-meter diving event at the MAAC Championship also set a new school record, allowing him to pass the former record, held by former Griff Eddie Quarantillo.
• Became the first ever Canisius diver to place in both the one and three-meter diving events at the Zone A Championships after he placed eighth in the three-meter and 17th in the one-meter competition.
