The Canisius outdoor track program will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. tomorrow for the annual Upstate Challenge held at Cornell University.
The event will begin at 11 a.m., with the Griffs taking part in several events, including the 800 and 1500 meter. The Blue and Gold will focus primarily on these two events, as they prepare for the upcoming Penn Relays next weeekend.
Graduate Student Chad Maloy will be running in the 1500 meter after a successful meet last weekend at Bucknell.
Maloy became the first Buffalo-area collegiate runner to finish a 10k race in less than 30 minutes, breaking the school record in the event by 16 seconds (29:53.07) last weekend, while two other school records were broken. Juniors Jeff Antolos and Brennan Root each broke their own record marks in the 5k (14:39.08) and 3k steeplechase (9:19.11) respectively.
The Upstate Challenge marks the second of six events the Golden Griffins will run in the outdoor season, with the team traveling to Philadelphia, Pa next weekend to compete in the Penn Relay's for the first ever time at Canisius.
