The Canisius College indoor track teams will travel to Brockport, N.Y. this weekend to take part in the Brockport Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational, which begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday Jan. 30.
The twenty-event invitational will begin with the men's and women's one mile run and end with the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
The Golden Griffins opened their track season this past weekend, where they saw graduate student Chad Maloy race to a MAAC best time in the men's 3000 meter (8:24.15), good enough for second all-time in program history.
Freshman Josh Sopchak raced his way to a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run (1:58.73, 19th in school history), with junior Brennan Root placing seventh in the 1000 meter race (2:34.71). Root's finish in the 1000 was only a few seconds ahead of fellow teammate junior Xavier Sauvageau (2:36.76) who placed 13th.
Sophomore Jade Auchmoody ran her way to a 14th place finish in the 1000 meter (3:08.56, the 10th fastest time in school history).
Heading into tomorrow's race, the Blue and Gold will have several runners atop the MAAC leaderboard, including Root, who holds the third best MAAC time in the 1000 meter. Xavier Sauvageau now ranks sixth in the MAAC for the same event. Sopchak holds the fifth position in the MAAC for the 800 meter.
The Griffs will next take part in the Youngstown Invitational, Feb 5th and 6th, from Youngstown, OH.
