The Canisius College volleyball team (1-10) comes home on Tuesday to take on cross-town rival, Buffalo (0-8), in the Griffs' final tune-up match before beginning conference play. The early-week contest will be the school's maiden voyage on its new ESPN3 video streaming program. Tuesday's match against the Bulls, along with the rest of the squad's home matches will be seen nationally via the Internet and WatchESPN app.
NOTING THE GRIFFS
- Canisius enters the contest with a 1-10 record, having dropped the last seven matches.
- It's been an all-or-nothing type of season for the Griffs as the squad's only win came in a three game sweep of Loyola, while five of its 10 losses have come the way of a three-game sweep.
- In total the Griffs have struggled notching set wins as opponents hold a 30-9 edge this season.
- The Blue and Gold are currently averaging 10.9 kills per set, but have been hampred by errors so far this season, falling victim to 215 total errors, while their opponents have only registered 175.
- Jacklyn Malusa had a strong match against Lehigh as she recorded 11 kills and no errors on 22 total attacks, but Griffs fans shouldn't be surprised as the senior has posted hitting percentages of .429, .304 and .500 when she registers 20-or-more attacks.
- Katlyn Tyler has been a consistent source of offense for the Blue and Gold as she leads the team in kills per set with a 3.23 mark and has only failed to register double-figure kills twice this season, achieving the feat in nine matches.
- While the Griffs continue to attempt to get consistency form its libero position, senor Rachel Kline leads the team in digs per set with a 2.49 mark. Grace Streicher second on the team with a 2.38 mark, with freshman Alexandra Brown, who has taken over as the starting libero, is third with a 1.92 digs per set mark.
- Both Kline and middle hitter Lauren Siebert were named to the MAAC All-Preseason team, before the start of the new campaign.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BUFFALO
- The Griffs have had a troublesome history with the Buffalo Bulls since 2001, however the Koessler Athletic Center has been much kinder to the Griffs than the road contests.
- Canisius is 3-4 under head coach Cathy Hummel when playing Buffalo at home, with its last win coming in 2011, winning 3-1 on Sept. 27.
- Buffalo won the last match at the Koessler Athletic Center, swpeeing the Griffs in three sets.
- On the road the Griffs are 1-7 against UB since 2001.
- When you break it down to set wins the Bulls have outscored the Griffs 17-9 in home matches since 2001.
NOTING THE BULLS
- The Bulls have worked through a very tough non-conference schedule so far in 2015 as the squad enters the match with an 0-8 record.
- The Bulls have played two ranked teams in #1 Penn State and #7 Washington along with Villanova and Ole Miss.
- As a team the Bulls are averaging 9.4 kills per set, 8.7 assists per set and 11.0 digs per set.
- Megan Lipski and Cassie Shado lead the team in kills per set with a 2.38 and 2.14 mark respectively.
- Marissa Prinzbach, a transfer from UCONN boasts a 8.08 assists per set average. She also has 3,000+ assists in her college career.
- Niki Bozinoski paces the team on the defensive side with 2.76 digs per set.
