Box Score Despite a game-high 22 points from senior guard
Kayla Hoohuli, the Golden Griffins women's basketball team fell to the Fairfield Stags on Kid's Day, 63-54 at the Koessler Athletic Center on Thursday afternoon. With the victory, the Stags move to 10-12 overall and improve to 9-4 in MAAC play, while the Griffs fall to 8-14 and 6-7 in the conference.
Hoohuli's 22 points was the second highest point total for the senior this season, falling just high of the career-high 26 points she scored against Niagara earlier this season. Behind Hoohuli was junior Emily Weber with nine points and three boards in 28 minutes of action and Tamara Miskovic added four points and three dimes off the bench.
The Stags were led by sophomore Kristine Miller who scored 14 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field and fellow sophomore Kelsey Carey who added 12. Fairfield out scored the Griffs off the bench, 21-8 and shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first half.
Canisius made a strong push in the second half to cut the Stags lead down to just six points with 2:07 left to play in regulation, but that would be the closest the Blue and Gold would come only as close as eight points during the rest of the game.
The next game for the Griffs will be on Saturday, February 7 at the Koessler Athletic Center when the team takes on the Marist Red Foxes at 2:00 p.m.
