After Day-Two of the 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Griffs women sit in second with a score of 188 points trailing only Marist and on the men's side, the Golden Griffins sit in third with a score of 181 points trailing Marist and Rider.
The Griffs began day two of the finals with the women's 500-yard freestyle and in Heat-B of the finals, junior Alex Doody recorded a second place finish with a time of 5:08.60. In Heat-A Canisius had two competitors in senior Marissa Oakey and freshman Rebecca Anthone. Oakey finished with a time of 5:04.21 and Anthone finished with a time of 5:00.29, good enough for second place.
In the men's 500-yard free, junior Spencer Bray finished in second place in Heat-B with a time of 4:36.92. Heat-A saw freshman Collin Zapisek finish in sixth place with a time of 4:35.21 and senior Sean Wurster finish in eighth with a time of 4:38.27.
The next event of the Day-Two finals was the women's 1-meter diving contest and senior Taylor Epstein finished in a medal-winning sixth place with a score of 218.10.
After the women's 1-meter diving contest came the women's 200-yard IM and in Heat-A, junior Clare Battaglia claimed seventh place with a time of 2:09.41. Heat-B of the men's 200-yard IM saw freshman Alex LaPoint finish in third with a time of 1:54.55 and sophomore Matt Tanchick finish in seventh with a time of 1:56.19.
The Heat-B finals of the women's 50-yard freestyle saw junior Alicia Wheeler finish in sixth with a time of 25.28 and Heat-A saw sophomore Hannah Graesser finish in third with a time of 23.86.
After breaking assistant coach Steve Pochatko's previous school record of 21.12 in the 50-yard free prelims, senior Nick Sereday finished in third place in the Heat-A of the finals with a time of 20.92 and in Heat-B freshman Tommy Kirch recorded a time of 21.57, placing him in sixth.
In the men's 3-meter diving finals, senior Eddie Quarantillo recorded a score of 344.10 in his preliminary round, breaking his own school record of 342.07 and in the finals, the senior scored 329.10, finishing in first place. Behind Quarantillo was sophomore Brent Carbone who finished in seventh and fellow sophomore Adam Bonk finished in first in the B-Final.
In the final events of Day-Two of the finals, the women's 200-yard free relay team finished in second with a time of 1:35.56 and the men's 200-yard free relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:24.23.
The Griffs will compete again in Day-Three of the Championship tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m.
