After Day-One of the 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championship at the Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo, the Golden Griffins women's swimming and diving team is tied for first place with the Saint Peter's Peacocks with a total of 72 points.
The Griffs men's squad is currently in fifth place with a score of 54 points, just six points behind fourth place Bryant.
Canisius broke two school records on the first day of the championships as the women's 200-yard medley relay team of Clare Battaglia, Marissa Watroba, Alicia Wheeler and Hannah Graesser recorded a third-place finish with a time of 1:46.67 and the men's 200-yard medley relay team of Gregory Staebell, Wyatt Sintay, Dan Dirrigl and Nick Sereday finished in sixth with their time of 1:32.98.
The Golden Griffins' women's 800-yard freestyle relay recorded the Griffs first first-place finish of the weekend as the relay team of Marissa Oakey, Clare Battaglia, Hannah Graesser and Rebecca Anthone finished in first in the race with a time of 7:34.76.
The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team, which consisted of Colin Landweer, Collin Zapisek, Sean Wurster and Spencer Bray, finished with a time of 6:52.23, placing them in fifth.
The team will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. to compete in Day-Two of the Championship.
