Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Canisius College women's basketball team played its final game before the Thanksgiving holiday, and recorded a 80-50 victory against the Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday night. Margret Halfdanardottir led the way with a team-high 14 points as the Griffs improved to 2-2. With the loss Binghamton drops to 2-3.
The Griffs had 10 of its 13 players record at least two field goals, as the squad spread the ball around the offense. Halfdanardottir paced the team with 14 points and country-mate Sara Hinriksdottir poured in 12 points with an efficient 5-of-6 performance. Crystal Porter also tallied double figures with 11 points (5-of-8). As a team the Griffs shot an impressive 55.9 percent form the field and 66.7 from long range as the squad recorded 12 treys in the contest.
Binghamton received 38 of its points from two players as Imani Watkins scored 21 in the contest, while Alyssa James posted 17. The Bearcats struggled form the field shooting 31 percent (10-of-33) and were out rebounded 48-23 for the game.
Canisius strong first-half defense continued, holding Binghamton to just 23 points in the first two frames, including a six-point second half. The Griffs however outscored the Bearcats 36-23 through the first two stanzas, with Porters' 11 points leading the charge for the Blue and Gold.
The second half was much of the same, as the Griffs limited Binghamton to just two, third-quarter field goals, outscoring Binghamton 21-8.
In the fourth frame, the Griffs cruised offensively, as a Sarah Cooley 3-pointer gave the Blue and Gold its largest lead of the game, 74-40 with 3:59 remaining, as the squad recorded the 80-50 victory.
The Griffs' 30-point margin of victory is the team's largest since the 2007 season, when the squad defeated Colgate 78-33.
The Blue and Gold resume the season coming out of the holiday break on Sunday as the squad takes on Bucknell at the Koessler Athletic Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
