Chad Maloy ran to his fourth individual title of the season this afternoon from the Bronx, N.Y. in the IC4A championship, giving him the most individual titles for a season in the Nate Huckle era. Maloy finished with a time of 25:28.4, eight seconds ahead of the second place finisher to close out his cross country career.
As a team, the men finished tenth overall, with Northeastern University winning the event. Gabe Bender was the second member of the Golden Griffins to finish the race, coming in 43rd place, with a finishing time of 26:56.8. A.J. Stuver (65, 27:16.9), Patrick Crowley (69, 27:20.3) and Brandon Williams (114, 28:17.5) rounded out the top five for the Blue and Gold.
“Our seniors closed out their careers as Griffs on a high note. Gabe ran well on the tough course and Chad claimed his fourth individual title of the season,” said head coach Nate Huckle. “Chad has had one of the most impressive careers in the history of the program, and it was fantastic to see him claim the IC4A Championship in his final cross country race.”
On the women's side, Katie Simon led the Griffs with a time of 20:30.9, while Kari Tuite trailed close behind with a time of 20:38.8.
The women ended the race with a 17th place finish as Livia Chase (21:20.4) and Christian Conner (21:39.3) also placed for the Golden Griffins.
“Our team scores were a little inflated today, as we didn't run most of our top seven, but we got solid production from our next tier,” said Huckle. “Our freshman stepped up well, especially on the women's side. Katie Simon ran well up front as our number one, Kari Tuite had her strongest race of the season.”
The race marked the final event of the cross country season with the team beginning its indoor track season in January of 2016.
