The Canisius swimming and diving teams took part in the first leg of the Rochester invite this evening facing Brandeis University, New York University and host University of Rochester in the dual meet setting.
On the women's side the Griffs outscored Brandeis 82-15, while being outscored by New York University 86-21 and the University of Rochester 72-35.
The men outscored both Brandeis, 92-13, and the University of Rochester, 77-31, while getting out totaled by New York University 70-38.
The first day of competition for the women ended with New York University leading at 261 points, followed by the University of Rochester at 189, with Canisius, 138, and Brandeis, 37, behind.
The men's competition saw New York University leading at 226 points, with the Griffs close behind at 207. The University of Rochester ended the day in third with 153 points and Brandeis was at the back of the pack with 51 points.
Individually the Golden Griffins men's diving team impressed with Travis Wright and Brent Carbone placing first and second with 329.6 and 288.9 points respectively.
The team had a second place finish in both the men's 200 and 800 yard freestyle relays, while also having a grouping finish in the second slot in in the men's 400 yard medley relay.
In the men's 1650 yard freestyle James Pokornowksi finished fourth (17:08.140), while Collin Zapisek finished ended in the fifth slot (17:17.42).
Thomas Kirch placed third in the men's 200 yard IM, with teammate Greg Staebell trailing close behind in fifth place.
The women's side saw a third place finish for Canisius in the 800 yard freestyle. The top grouping for the Griffs ending in fourth in the 200 yard free.
The women's 400 relay team of Cassie Brousseau, Marissa Watroba, Meghan Tyler and Hannah Graesser finished in third.
Day two of the Rochester Invite will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. and can be followed on the meet mobile app.
