The Canisius swimming and diving teams took on the Cleveland State Vikings this afternoon in a dual meet and despite some strong performances from each squad, the Griffs lost both the men's and women's meets to the Vikings.
The Golden Griffin men's team fell to Cleveland State by a final score of 126.0 to 117.0 and the women fell 130.0 to 109.0.
The meets started out with the diving portion of each event and in the women's 1-meter and 3-meter Taylor Epstein finished in second place with scores of 195.83 and 220.43, while fellow senior diver Eddie Quarantillo also finished second in the men's 1-meter with a score of 289.90, but won the men's 3-meter with a score of 327.23.
Canisius' women's team started out the meet with a big 200-yard medley relay victory, as the relay team of Clare Battaglia, Marissa Watroba, Alicia Wheeler and Hannah Graesser, won the event with a time of 1:51.62. Freshman Rebecca Anthone won the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.06 and the women's 500-yard freestyle (5:11.04) continuing her successful rookie campaign.
Graesser, who won the 200-yard medley relay earlier, won the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.53 and Watroba finished in first in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.33. The Griffs would close out the women's meet with another relay victory as the 200-yard freestyle relay team, Erica Tozser, Marissa Oakey, Natalie Ryan and Anthone, won the event with a time of 1:40.80.
On the Griffs' men's side junior Spencer Bray started out the winning in the pool, finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:48.93. Seniors Nicholas Sereday, Sean Wurster, Sam Hansen were also all individual event winners on the men's side. Sereday won the men's 50-yard free with a time of 21.88, Wurster won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.24 and Hansen finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.42.
The Golden Griffins next dual-meet will be on December 13th when the Blue and Gold travels to Fredonia, N.Y. to take on Fredonia at 1:00 p.m.
