Junior Emily Weber added eight points and four rebounds while making multiple 3-pointers for the fifth time this season. Sophomore Tamara Miskovic added six rebounds and three assists with two steals in 20 minutes off the bench.
“We played poorly from the start, got back on our heels and let them do what they wanted to do,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “Those aren't the things we wanted to do coming into this game. We didn't compete, and I'm disappointed in that.”
Syracuse dominated the glass throughout the first half, especially the offensive glass in the early going. The Orange scored the first eight points of the game before a 3-pointer from the top of the key from Weber made it 8-3. Of the first 21 points scored by Syracuse, 14 came as second-chance points as the Orange had 11 offensive rebounds in the opening eight minutes.
Syracuse led 40-15 at the half and scored four baskets in the opening three minutes of the second half. The Griffs would hold the Orange without a field goal for six and a half minutes, but Syracuse got to the free-throw line and continued to crash the glass hard with eight second-chance points in the opening eight minutes. Porter scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, draining a number of jumpers from the free-throw line.
