Swimming and Diving Completes Rochester Invite

The Canisius women's squad defeated Brandeis University by a score of 289.00 to 56.00 but fell to host University of Rochester, 190.00 to 178.00 and New York University, 255.00-113.00.

The men's team performed well overall as well, as the Blue and Gold defeated Brandeis, 296.00 – 69.00 and Rochester, 255.00 to 113.00. The team dropped the third competition to New York University 238.00 – 131.00.

“I thought the team did pretty well, a lot of improvements from our first meet against Marist, but we still have a long way to go as we get ready for the MAAC's in February,” said head coach Scott Vanderzell. “It's always nice to see what improvements we can get week to week and we're looking forward to our home meet against Geneseo next weekend.”

The men's has numerous victories on day two of the invitational headlined by senior Eddie Quarantillo, who finished first in the 3-meter with a score of 363.90. Besides the senior, freshmen Daniel Dirrigl finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.19 and Gregory Staebell won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.06.

On the women's side, freshman Rebecca Anthone had another solid week, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.38 and the 200-yard freestyle with a final of 1:57.31. Sophomore Hannah Graesser also had a tremendous day in the pool for the Griffs, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.41 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.72. The two swimmers were also part of the third place 400-yard freestyle relay team, which finished with a time of 3:39.60.

After completing the Rochester Invitational, the Griffs will host their first home meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 1st. The Blue and Gold will be swimming in the Koessler Athletic Center pool against local rival Geneseo.
