Canisius College senior guard Isaac Sosa has been named to the
2012-13 MAAC All-Academic Team, the conference office announced today. Sosa is
one of 11 student-athletes to be honored by the MAAC this year and this is his
second academic honor of the season, as he was also named to the Capital One
Academic All-District Team in early February.
A native
of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Sosa is averaging 11.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per
game while shooting 40.3 percent from 3-point range, which ranks 38th
in the country. He has knocked down a team-high 89 3-point field goals, which
set a new single-season school record at Canisius and his 2.9 3-point field
goals per game ranks second in the MAAC and 23rd nationally. He has
played in and started all 31 games this year for the Golden Griffins, who are
currently 18-13 overall and waiting to hear about a potential postseason berth.
In
the classroom, Sosa holds a 3.48 grade point average as a finance major at the
College. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must
hold a GPA of 3.2 or better (on a 4.0 scale) and be at least a sophomore in
academic standing. Sosa is the 18th player in program history to
earn MAAC All-Academic honors.
