BALTIMORE - The Canisius College women's basketball team won for the sixth time in eight games, defeating Loyola University 60-46 in Reitz Arena on Thursday. The Golden Griffins also won their third consecutive road game to improve to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Senior Ashley Durham led all players with 21 points, going 8-for-13 from the floor. Junior Jen Morabito and sophomore Kayla Hoohuli joined Durham with three 3-pointers each on the day as Canisius went 11-for-26 from behind the arc. Sophomore Brooke Angelos had six assists in 18 minutes while Hoohuli added four assists.

"I felt we built off of Sunday's victory and got another good team win. We made a lot of good decisions to run our offense the way Loyola played us," Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. "Ashley gave us those points early and then we had a lot of other players contribute down the stretch."

Canisius missed its opening four shots of the game and then made four of its next five from the floor, including eight points from Durham in a two-minute span, to go up 11-3. After a jumper from Nneka Offodile, the Griffs scored seven straight points, including baskets from senior Ashley Wilkes and a baseline jumper from junior Jen Lennox, to go up 18-5 and build their biggest lead of the half. Loyola used layups from Kara Marshall and Diana Logan to get within eight at 25-17, but Durham drained her third 3-pointer of the first half to put Canisius up 28-17 and give the senior 15 first-half points.

Durham scored the first six points of the half for Canisius, making two free throws, putting back an offensive rebound and draining a pull-up jumper, to push the Griffs' lead to 34-18. The Greyhounds fought back into the game with an 8-0 run but the Griffs countered with back-to-back 3-pointers. Hoohuli drained one from the right wing and then Wilkes stole the skip pass, with Angelos finding Morabito in the corner on the ensuing fast break. Morabito connected to put the Griffs back up by 14.

The Griffs stayed hot from behind the arc and made four straight 3-point attempts, with Morabito and Hoohuli going back-to-back to put Canisius up 48-30. A baseline jumper from senior Allison Braun gave Canisius a 50-30 lead, its biggest of the game. Loyola scored nine consecutive points to make the score 50-39, but two free throws from freshman Tiahana Mills and 3-pointers from Braun and Mills put the game away.

Alyssa Sutherland led Loyola (6-12, 1-6 MAAC) with 11 points while Katie Sheahin had nine rebounds. Loyola shot 30.4 percent from the floor and was held to 4-for-24 from behind the arc.

Canisius returns home to close out the month of January against rival Niagara University in the KAC on Sunday afternoon. Game time for the first game of the sold-out doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. The game can be viewed worldwide on ESPN3.

Notes: Canisius defeated Loyola in Baltimore for the first time in three years... Durham has now scored in double digits in the last eight games, matching Brittané Russell's streak from 2009-10 (Jan. 18 to Feb. 13, 2010)... The 11-point halftime lead matched the biggest of the season (41-30 at Long Beach State) for the Griffs... Durham has 84 points in the team's last five Kid's Day games... Canisius improves to 13-4 in its last 17 Kid's Day games... The 11 3-pointers were a season-high for the Griffs... The Griffs have won six out of eight for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Canisius also has won its opening three MAAC road games for the first time since that campaign... Angelos now has 11 assists and two turnovers in her last 36 minutes played... The 46 points scored by Loyola were the fewest allowed by Canisius this season.
