The Canisius College volleyball team earned a three-game sweep over host Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon (25-15, 25-17, 25-10). The Griffs are now 5-0 on the season in MAAC play and are off to the best start in the program's history. Overall, Canisius improves to 8-7, while the Peacocks drop to 1-7 and 0-5 against conference foes.
Senior Samantha Good led the Griffs, matching a season high with 11 kills (on just 17 swings) in addition to a career-best five service aces. Sophomore Olivia Chrzanowski added five kills on seven attempts for a career-best .714 attacking percentage. Junior Sydney Palka paced the Griffs offense with 32 assists in the winning effort.
Senior Allyson Severyn led the team with 18 digs on the afternoon to anchor the Canisius defense, which held the Peacocks to just a .010 attacking percentage.
The teams went back-and-forth to start the first set before Canisius controlled the second half of the opening stanza, turning a 12-11 deficit into a 25-15 win with a 14-3 run. The Griffs grabbed the early lead in the next stanza and never relinquished en route to gaining a 2-0 advantage with a 25-17 second set.
An early 13-1 run in the third set put the match out of reach as Canisius earned its fourth sweep of the season and third-straight against conference foes.
The Griffs look to continue the best MAAC start in school history with a match against Manhattan tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
