Canisius College women's basketball coach Terry Zeh announced today the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jasmine Mungo (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Crystal Porter (Houston, Texas) will join the Golden Griffins for the 2012-13 season.

"We're real excited to add these two players to our program," Zeh said. "They are outstanding young women as well as outstanding basketball players."

Mungo played at Riverdale Baptist, which was ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Super 25 Girls Varsity Basketball Poll. Mungo averaged eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game as a senior during the 2011-12 season. Riverdale Baptist posted a 37-4 record against a national schedule and won the ESPNHS National High School Invitational in April. The Riverdale Baptist roster featured a seven-member senior class with all players going to Division I schools - West Virginia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Towson, La Salle and Morgan State.

"Jasmine is an outstanding student who comes from a great basketball program at Riverdale Baptist," Zeh said. "She has competed with and against some of the best players in the country, and we are excited to have her join the Canisius College women's basketball family."

Porter played at Elisik High School where she earned Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State honors in 2011 and 2012. As a senior, Porter averaged 14.1 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per game and 3.1 blocks per game. The 5-foot-10 forward also earned 5A Girls Basketball All-Tournament Team honors in 2011 as well as District 18 5A Most Valuable Player honors and Houston Chronicle First-Team accolades as a junior.

"We are really excited to add a player of Crystal's abilities, and it is great to have a player of Crystal's caliber to come from Texas to Canisius," Zeh said. "Her combination of skill and athleticism will make Crystal a tough matchup for many people."

Mungo and Porter will join Tiahana Mills (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Emily Weber (Clifton Park, N.Y.) as the four new members of the Golden Griffin women's basketball program for the 2012-13 season.

Zeh also announced that Melissa Gardner will not return for next season.

Canisius did not have a senior on its roster during the 2011-12 season when the Golden Griffins posted a 12-18 record. The Golden Griffins return 10 players for next season.
