Canisius College sophomore Jamie Ruttle was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Third Team while freshman Kayla Hoohuli was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, the MAAC announced on Monday.

Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring at 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-3 sophomore, one of two Canisius players to start all 29 games this season and has reached double figures a team-high 18 times this season and has averaged 15.0 points per game in the month of February. Ruttle is the first Canisius sophomore to earn All-MAAC honors since Megan Lyte during the 2004-05 season.  

Hoohuli is the seventh Canisius freshman to earn MAAC All-Rookie honors under eighth-year coach Terry Zeh and gives Canisius a member of the All-Rookie Team for the seventh time under Zeh, both feats that rank as the most in the conference. The St. Mary's Pa. native ranks third among MAAC freshmen in scoring (8.5 points). She leads all MAAC freshmen with 54 made 3-pointers and is eighth in the league among all players at 36.2 percent from behind the arc.

All five members of the MAAC All-Rookie Team are eligible to be voted the MAAC Rookie of the Year, which will be announced at the Postseason Awards Show on Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The show will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV.

Canisius begins play in the 2012 MAAC Championship on Thursday, when the No. 8 seed Golden Griffins take on No. 9 seed Saint Peter's College. Tipoff at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. is set for 2 p.m.
