QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius College women's basketball team returns to the Koessler Athletic Center for its first two home conference games of the 2011-12 season, starting with Saturday's game against Saint Peter's College.
  • The Golden Griffins have won four straight against the Peahens and have won the last eight meetings between the teams in the Koessler Athletic Center.
  • Canisius leads the MAAC at 14.2 assists per game. The Griffs rank fourth in the country with an assist on 70.9 percent of their field goals. 
  • Canisius has shot over 40 percent in each of the last five games, the longest streak since a stretch of six straight during the 2008-09 season.
  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle leads the team in scoring and rebounding, as the Burlington, Ontario native is averaging 13.9 points and 6.0 rebounds in the last seven games.

  • Sophomore Jen Morabito leads the MAAC in 3-point field goals made per game (2.5) and is 17th in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (42.7).
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli is the first Canisius freshman in 16 years to score in double figures in each of her first two MAAC games.
  • In the last five games, Canisius is shooting 86.7 percent from the free-throw line and is shooting 78.7 percent from the free-throw line in the second half of games this season. 
  • The Griffs rank 18th nationally in free-throw percentage (76.4).
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring (11.6) and rebounding (5.3). She has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage and ninth in free-throw percentage.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 32 3-point field goals this season, accounting for 82 percent of her made field goals. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in seven games and has scored in double figures a team-high eight times this season.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, is shooting 51 percent from the field in the last 10 games. Braun has at least five rebounds in seven games and has at least one steal in 11 of the last 12 games.
  • Junior Ashley Durham has 25 assists in the last five contests and is fourth in the MAAC in assists per game (3.9). Durham also ranks second in the conference in free-throw percentage (90.2) and has made 36 of her last 37 free throws.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has 18 3-pointers in the last eight games after making three 3-pointers in the opening five games. Hoohuli has drawn a team-high seven charges on the season and has started the last six games (averaging 10.3 points per game as a starter).
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in seven games this season and has recorded at least one steal in nine games. Wilkes leads the team with a 47.7 field goal percentage.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp has started each of the last five games, scoring a season-high 14 points against Albany and then setting a career-high with five blocks against Cornell. VandeBovenkamp has at least five rebounds in each of the last four games.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in six games this season. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 25 career games, including eight blocks in the last nine games.
  • Junior Melissa Gardner has scored 21 points with 20 rebounds and three assists while shooting 11-for-13 from the free-throw line in the last nine games (69 total minutes). 
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 5.6 assists per 40 minutes.

SAINT PETER'S SCOUT

  • Saint Peter's comes to Western New York with an 0-13 record, after dropping games to Marist and Fairfield to open MAAC play.
  • Saint Peter's held a 10-point, second-half lead on Marist in the MAAC opener on Monday, before the Red Foxes rallied for the victory.
  • Senior Jynae Judson leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game and also leads the Peahens in rebounding (6.8). Judson has led Saint Peter's in scoring in seven of the last nine games.
  • Sophomore Aziza May leads the team with 50 assists and 21 steals while senior Quiana Porter has 15 blocked shots. Sophomore Khadijah Young has made a team-high 13 3-pointers. 
  • Saint Peter's has scored more than 60 points in two of the team's 13 games this season.
  • Saint Peter's has a -13.4 scoring margin and -4.7 turnover margin and is making 3.5 3-point field goals per game.
  • Saint Peter's is averaging 51.9 points per game, allowing 65.3 points per game and shooting 31.7 percent from the field.
  • Saint Peter's is averaging a league-high 74.7 possessions per game.
  • Stephanie DeWolfe is in her eighth season at her alma mater (class of 1997). DeWolfe has an 85-134 all-time record with the Peahens. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. SAINT PETER'S

  • Canisius and Saint Peter's are meeting for the 48th time, with the Peahens holding a 27-20 lead in the all-time series.
  • Canisius has won the last four meetings between the teams overall and the last eight between the teams in the Koessler Athletic Center.
  • In the most recent meeting, Canisius won 69-50 at the Yanitelli Center on Feb. 4, 2011. Canisius was down 29-17, but used an 8-2 run to end the first half and out-scored Saint Peter's 44-19 in the second half en route to the 19-point win. Jen Morabito had 17 points for the Griffs.
  • Canisius defeated Saint Peter's 60-56 in the KAC last year. The Griffs built a 16-point second-half lead and then  held on for the four-point win. Micayla Drysdale had 15 points for the Griffs while Ashley Durham and Jamie Ruttle each scored nine points.
