QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius College women's basketball team concludes its weekend homestand by hosting Rider University in the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday afternoon.
  • Sunday is Hall of Fame Day in the Canisius athletic department as five individuals and one team (1982-83 Golden Griffin women's basketball team) will be inducted.
  • Sunday is the last of six doubleheaders with the Golden Griffin men's basketball team.
  • Canisius leads the all-time series 24-7 with Rider. The teams split the 2011-12 season series, and the Griffs are 13-2 all-time against the Broncs in Buffalo.
  • Rider is the last team in the MAAC that Canisius has not played this season.

  • Junior Ashley Durham ranks 10th in the country in free-throw percentage at 89.5 percent.  Durham leads the team with a 13.2 scoring average through nine conference games. 
  • Through Friday night's games, the Griffs are sixth in the country with an assist on 68.8 percent of their field goals. Canisius had a season-high 19 assists on 23 baskets on Friday.
  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle leads the team in scoring and rebounding. The Burlington, Ontario native is shooting 52.1 percent on two-point shots in the last 12 games.
  • In its last 14 games against MAAC opponents, Canisius has held the opposition to 25.9 percent from behind the arc.
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring (11.0) and rebounding (5.3). She has scored in double figures in nine of the last 14 games and in 15 games in conference play.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 40 3-point field goals this season, accounting for 72.7 percent of her made field goals. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in eight games and has scored in double figures 10 times.
  • Junior Ashley Durham has 59 assists in the last 12 contests and is third in the MAAC in assists per game (4.2). Durham also ranks first in the conference in free-throw percentage (89.5) and has made 74 of her last 80 free throws.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has 33 3-pointers in the last 15 games. Through nine MAAC games, Hoohuli is shooting 47.8 percent on 3-pointers, which is tied for second in the conference. Hoohuli has drawn a team-high eight charges on the season and is averaging 10.5 points in the last 12 games.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season,  has missed the last three games and is out indefinitely with a leg injury. Braun is shooting 50.7 percent from the field in her last 14 appearances and has at least one steal in 14 of her last 16 appearances.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp set a season-high with 11 rebounds at Iona on Jan. 22.  She is shooting 48.3 percent from the floor in the last eight games and has made 15 of her last 16 free throws. 
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in nine games this season and has recorded at least one steal in 12 games. Wilkes leads the team with a 51.8 field goal percentage, including a 58.5 field goal percentage at home.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in seven games this season, including eight against Loyola on Friday. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 25 career games.
  • Junior Melissa Gardner is averaging 8.2 rebounds per 40 minutes and has made 14 of her last 19 free throws.  
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 4.8 assists per 40 minutes.

RIDER SCOUT

  • Rider concludes the final game of its trip to Western New York with a 10-10 overall record and 2-7 record in the MAAC.
  • Rider is 4-6 away from home and 0-4 in MAAC road games. The Broncs have dropped five straight after a 69-63 loss at Niagara on Friday.
  • Sophomore MyNeshia McKenzie leads the team at 11.4 points per game and leads the MAAC at 9.5 rebounds per contest. 
  • Ali Heller, a 39.5 percent 3-point shooter, and Sironda Chambers, who was averaging 10.0 points per game, will miss Sunday's game. Heller has a knee injury and is out for the year while Chambers is academically inelgible for the spring semester.
  • Junior Caitlin Bopp is averaging 9.1 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 50.9 percent.
  • In MAAC play, Rider is 10th in scoring offense (55.0) and scoring defense (66.2). The Broncs are shooting 33.3 percent from the floor and 24.1 percent on 3-pointers. Rider has a -0.9 rebounding margin, a 68.2 defensive rebounding percentage and 34.0 offensive rebounding percentage while making 3.0 3-pointers per game against conference opponents.
  • Lynn Milligan is in her fifth season at her alma mater, leading the team to its best start (8-3) since the 1982-83 season.
SERIES HISTORY VS. RIDER
  • Canisius holds a 24-7 lead in the all-time series between the teams.
  • The teams split their two meetings last season, each team winning on its home court.
  • Canisius has won 13 of the 15 meetings between the teams in the KAC.
  • Canisius defeated Rider 70-28 last year in Buffalo. Jen Lennox had 16 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes while Jen Morabito had 12 points.
