The
Canisius College baseball team committed five errors, leading to five unearned
runs, as the Golden Griffins lost 6-2 to Siena College on Sunday afternoon. The
Griffs dropped two of three games to the Saints and are now 20-27 overall and
8-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Canisius is now in a three-way tie with Fairfield and Marist for fourth place in the conference standings.
The
Saints scored one unearned run in the first and then scored three more unearned
runs in the fourth, taking advantage of two Canisius errors in the inning. The
Griffs got on the board in the sixth as senior Sean Jamieson singled with one out, moved to third on a single from
senior Brian Burton and scored on a
sacrifice fly from junior Drew Pettit.
Canisius
scored another run in the eighth on a home run from Burton, his fifth of the
season, that made the score 4-2. Siena scored two insurance runs in the eighth,
one of them being unearned, on a two-RBI single from Tyler Bell.
Freshman
Garrett Cortright (1-4) took the
loss for the Griffs, allowing four unearned runs, giving up seven hits and
striking out five in five innings. Redshirt sophomore Nathan Linseman allowed two runs, one earned, in three innings of
relief.
Zach
Hartman (6-4) earned the win for Siena, allowing two runs on six hits in 7.2
innings. Ryan Poplawski received the save for throwing 1.1 innings of scoreless
relief.
After
taking the week off from competition for final exams, Canisius returns to the field
next weekend for the start of a three-game series against Fairfield. Game time for
the Saturday's doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex is set for noon.
