QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius College women's basketball team returns to the Koessler Athletic Center for the final two non-conference games on the 2011-12 schedule, starting with Thursday's game against Albany.
  • Thursday's game is part of a doubleheader with the Golden Griffin men's basketball team, the second of six doubleheaders in the KAC this season.
  • Canisius and Albany are meeting for the second time. The other meeting was a 52-41 win for the Griffs over the Great Danes on Dec. 2, 2009.
  • Canisius leads the MAAC at 14.3 assists per game. The Griffs have an assist on 73.3 percent of their field goals, which is the second-highest total in the country. The next highest percentage in the MAAC is 63.1 percent (Manhattan).
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, winning the award for the second time this season. Hoohuli had 15 points and five rebounds in Sunday's win at Kent State.
  • Canisius is one of two schools in the MAAC (along with Rider) with four players averaging seven or more points per game.
  • Canisius sophomore Jen Morabito is tied for first in the MAAC and is 29th nationally in 3-point field goals per game (2.7). The Binghamton, N.Y. native is 44th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (40.7)  
  • Junior Ashley Durham is third in the MAAC and 57th nationally in free-throw percentage (86.1).
  • Cansius has held its opponents to 20 percent from behind the arc in the last five home games.
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring (10.8) and has scored eight or more points in 23 of the last 30 games. Of Ruttle's 44 rebounds, 20 are offensive rebounds.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 24 of the team's 52 3-point field goals this season. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in five games and has scored in double figures a team-high seven times this season, including the last four games.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, is shooting 60 percent from the field in the last six games. Braun has at least five rebounds in six games and has at least one steal in seven of the last eight games.
  • Junior Ashley Durham has 35 assists, including a career-high eight on Sunday, and is tied for fifth in the MAAC in assists per game (3.9). Durham also ranks third in the conference in free-throw percentage (86.1) and has made 21 of her last 22 free throws.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in eight of the last 12 games. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 22 career games, including five blocks in the last five games.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in seven of the team's games this season and has recorded at least one steal in seven games as well. Wilkes is averaging 12.3 points and shooting 66.7 percent (14-for-21) in three home games this season.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp made her first start of the season in Sunday's game at Kent State.  VandeBovenkamp recorded season highs in minutes (16), rebounds (four) and points (five).
  • Junior Melissa Gardner has scored 11 points with 12 rebounds and three assists while shooting 7-for-9 from the free-throw line in the last five games (46 total minutes). 
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has nine 3-pointers in the last four games after making three 3-pointers in the opening five games. Hoohuli has at least one steal in six of the last eight games and is averaging 5.3 rebounds in the last four games.
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 5.8 assists per 40 minutes.

ALBANY SCOUT

  • Albany enters Thursday's game with a 6-4 record. The Great Danes have won three straight after a 64-54 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday.
  • Albany is 2-4 on the road this season.
  • Three Great Danes are averaging double figures, led by Ebone Henry. The junior is averaging 13.9 points per game while taking 17 field goal attempts per game.
  • Junior Julie Forster is averaging a double-double with 10.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Forster is also shooting a team-best 47.7 percent from the floor.
  • Lindsey Lowrie had 26 points (on 11-for-14 shooting) in Sunday's win against Albany, after scoring 17 points in the first nine games of the season.
  • Albany is averaging 58.5 points per game and has a +4.8 turnover margin, forcing its opponents into 20.8 turnovers per game. The Great Danes have a 64.4 defensive rebounding percentage and a 37.6 offensive rebounding percentage. Albany is shooting 29.3 percent from behind the arc.
  • Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is in her first season at Albany after five years at Missouri State. She led the Bears to the WNIT title in 2005 and defeated Canisius 97-89 during the 2007-08 season.

ONLY MEETING VS. ALBANY

  • Canisius and Albany are playing for the second time in program history, with the other meeting taking place on Dec. 2, 2009 — a 52-41 win for the Golden Griffins.
  • Canisius held Albany to 13 first-half points and built a 24-point second-half lead en route to the 11-point win. 
  • Ashley Durham had eight points in 19 minutes while Allison Braun had five points and six rebounds in 22 minutes.
