The Canisius College volleyball team won its sixth consecutive match with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 win at Rider University in the Alumni Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Griffins recorded their sixth straight sweep and improved to 15-14 overall and 10-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Canisius finished in a tie with Marist for fourth place in the regular-season standings. The teams split their two regular-season meetings. The next tiebreaker is sets won, with each team winning three. The next tiebreaker is point differential and Canisius held a +6 margin in that category.

Canisius will play No. 1 seed Niagara University at noon on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. The winner of that match will face the winner of the Fairfield-Siena match for the MAAC Championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Sophomore Emily Elek led Canisius with 11 kills while junior Samantha Good had nine kills and a .562 attack percentage to go along with four blocks. Senior Janelle Davis had 30 assists, seven digs and four blocks while junior Allyson Severyn had 21 digs.

"I'm so proud of our entire team," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "They were given a second chance and earned a spot to compete for a championship. We are excited to practice for another week."

Canisius broke the first set open early, using a 13-2 run to build a 16-5 lead. The Griffs easily won the first set, as Good, Elek and senior Danielle Brawn each had three kills in the set. The teams stayed close throughout the second set and were tied at 17-17. Canisius then won three straight points, including kills from Davis and sophomore Roxanne Hernandez, to go up 20-17. The Broncs would cut the lead to 20-19, but kills from Good and Elek extended the Canisius lead and another kill from Elek put Canisius up 2-0 in the match.

Rider held an 8-5 lead in the third set, but Canisius went on a 10-1 run go up 15-9 and take control of the final set. Brawn had two kills during the run, as well as a service ace, and Elek had back-to-back kills. The Broncs never got closer than five points the rest of the way and a kill from Davis closed out the match.

Jaclyn Webber led Rider (5-25, 3-15 MAAC) with a match-high 16 kills. Brittany Gajewski led Rider with 15 digs while Ashlee Amatulli had a team-high 19 assists.

Notes: Canisius defeats Rider for the 12^th straight meeting and improves to 19-3 in the last 22 matchups with the Broncs... Canisius wins double-digit conference matches for the fifth time in the last six seasons... The six-match winning streak is the longest since Oct. 18-Nov. 2, 2003, when Canisius also won six straight matches... Elek had double-digit kills for the first time since Sept. 18, at Iona... Good posted an attack percentage of .400 or better for the eighth time this season and 20^th time in her career.
