The
Canisius College volleyball team picked up its first conference win of the 2011
season with a three-set victory over Saint Peter's College in the Koessler Atheltic
Center on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Griffins won 25-14, 25-17, 25-9 to win
their second straight game and improve to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference.

"It's
never as easy of a win as it appears on the scoreboard, but I was proud of our
effort today," Canisius coach Cathy
Hummel said. "For pretty much the entire match, we stuck to our game plan, and we found a lot of success."
Canisius
took control of the first set with a five-point run on the serve of Brawn,
going up 6-2 after a block from Good and sophomore Emily Elek. The Griffs would eventually close out the set by
winning nine of the last 12 points. The Griffs held an 8-6
lead in the second set before taking four straight points to push their lead to six.
The Peahens never got closer than five points the rest of the way as Canisius went
up 2-0 in the match.
Canisius
won the first seven points of the third set and never looked back. The Griffs
posted an attack percentage of .562 in the third set to record their first MAAC
win on the season.

Reinhard led Saint Peter's (0-16, 0-5 MAAC) with eight kills while Anna
Molokotina had 17 assists.
Canisius
hosts Manhattan in the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday, with match time set
for 2 p.m.
Notes: Canisius
defeated Saint Peter's for the eighth straight year in the Koessler Athletic
Center and for the 13th time in the last 16 meetings overall... Brawn
had double-digit kills for the 15th time in the last 17 matches...
With her three blocks, Good moved into ninth place in the record books in career blocks... Canisius
didn't have a service reception error for the first time since Oct. 26, 2008,
at Siena... Canisius had more service aces than service errors for the second
time this season (Aug. 26 vs. La Salle)... The nine points allowed by the Griffs
in the third set were the fewest allowed to a conference opponent (in the first through fourth sets) since the
NCAA went to a 25-point format.
