The
Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in
their first meet since the Christmas holiday when they take on the Gannon
University Knights Saturday afternoon in Erie, Pa. The meet is scheduled for 1
p.m.
The
last time the Griffs took to the pool was on Dec. 17 as both teams lost to the
St. Bonaventure Bonnies at the Koessler Athletic Center as the women fell
163-77 and the men were defeated 171-72. The women's team set two-new school
records as freshman Kelli Graber set
the new program mark in the 50-yard freestyle clocking in at 25.40 while fellow
freshman Anna Schena secured a time
of 1:00.05 in the 100-yard butterfly race which is the new program-best.
Sophmores Matt Moessinger and Tyler Carver both set team season top-times
for the men as Moessinger earned a time of 4:46.96 in the 500-yard freestyle
event and Carver swam the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:01.08. Both teams
have showed marked improvement from the first week in the season, as five
school-records have been set between the two teams.
Canisius
has had varied success against the Gannon Knights as the women have gone 0-2
while the men have a record 1-1 under head coach Scott Vanderzell. This will be
the second-to-last meet the Griffs will compete in before the MAAC Tournament,
which is co-hosted between Canisius and Niagara. The tournament will be held at
the Burt Flickenger Center in downtown Buffalo on Feb. 17-19.
