Senior
Julius Coles (Harlem, N.Y.) was
named to the preseason all-MAAC Second Team while senior Greg Logins (Sodus, N.Y) was named to the Third Team at MAAC
Basketball Media Day at B.B. Kings Club & Grill on Tuesday. The Golden
Griffins were picked seventh in the preseason coaches poll.
Coles,
one of five seniors on this year's roster for the Griffs, holds the distinction
of being the fourth-leading scorer among returning players in the MAAC. A
6-foot-4 guard, Coles made 27 starts last season and posted 13.2 points per
game after scoring in double figures 23 times. He was honored as a MAAC Player
of the Week one time last season and enters his senior season 115 points shy of
joining the school's 1,000-point club while ranking 10th in school
history in career 3-point field goals made.
Another
one of Canisius' five seniors, Logins ranked third on the team and 24th
in the MAAC a season ago in scoring average at 10.2 points per game. He was
good for 6.1 rebounds per night and his 4.8 defensive rebounds per contest was
seventh-best in the league. A 6-foot-7 forward, Logins starts his senior season
84 points shy of joining the school's 1,000-point club.
Canisius
was picked seventh for the second consecutive season. Fairfield received six
first-place votes to finish first, followed by Siena and Saint Peter's. Iona
was picked fourth, followed by Rider and Manhattan. Behind the Griffs were
Niagara, Manhattan and Marist.
Canisius starts the 2010-11 season in the second
game of a doubleheader in the Koessler Atheltic Center on Friday, Nov. 12, when
the Golden Griffins take on rival St. Bonaventure Game time is set for 8:30
