College swimming and diving head coach Scott
Vanderzell announced today the appointment of Meili Carpenter as the team's diving coach for the 2010-11 season.
"We're
very excited to have Meili working with our diving team this year," said
Vanderzell. "She will be bringing a tremendous amount of experience and
knowledge to the program which will help lift the diving program to a new
level."
The
Boulder, Colo.. native graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2009 with a
bachelor's degree in chemistry and pyschology after she enjoyed a storied
career at UB. A four-time All-MAC honoree (2007-10) and three-time
Division I NCAA Qaulifier (1m, 3m, platform), Carpenter was named
University at Buffalo Female Athlete of the Year in 2010 after becoming a
National Diving Championship finalist in the 1m and 3m diving events. She was
also named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I University
Division Second Team. Along with her coaching responsibilities Meili is
currently training at UB for the 2012 Olympic Trials.
The Canisius College women's swimming and diving teams
will take to the pool when they host a three-team meet against Duquesne and
Siena on Nov. 5 starting at 5 p.m. The men's team will compete in a separate
meet on Nov. 6 when they swim against St. Bonaventure and La Salle at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
