The Canisius College women's lacrosse team lost to nationally-ranked Duke on Friday night, falling to the No. 7 Blue Devils, 20-1. The loss drops the Griffs to 4-6 on the season, while Duke improves to 8-2.
“Duke is a top-10 team and they showed it today,” said Canisius head coach Scott Teeter. “We hurt ourselves in the first half by committing too many mistakes. We played much better in the second half and forced them into turnovers but they are a pretty good team.”
Senior Chelsea Martinez scored the Griffs' lone goal of the game, while sophomore Allison Daley recorded 12 saves in net.
The Blue Devils scored 2:02 into the contest and tallied the first 13 goals of the game to cruise to the victory. Caroline Cryer led Duke with five points and four goals, while Mollie Mackler stopped 8-of-9 shots on goal to earn the victory.
Canisius returns to the field next Friday, opening MAAC play against Siena. First draw at the Demske Sports Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
