In a tough loss to St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon, sophomore Steve Pochatko finished first in the 100-yard backstroke as the men fell to the Bonnies 42-181. Sophomore Kara Powalski earned consistent points for the Griffs as the women fell 44.5-172.
Pochatko earned another win in the 100-yard backstroke with his season-best time of 53.19, two seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Pochatko has been dominant in the event, earning his fifth win through six meets this season in either the 100 or 200-yard backstroke.
Powalski earned seven of the Griffs 44.5 points, finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, third in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle relay along with Michelle Niblock, Sarah Schaefer and Courtney Marcolini.
The Griffs return to the water again in the new year with a meet against Bryant (women only) and Siena on Jan. 17. Meet time is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Blue and Gold will return home next when they compete against long-time rival Niagara on Jan. 21.
